A hard session burns through 60 to 90g of carbs an hour. Glucose-only fuel hits the gut's absorption ceiling at around 60. The 1:0.8 formula opens a second pathway, so Cadence raises the ceiling, not the gut load.
Glucose is the fast route. It moves through the gut's primary transporter straight into the bloodstream and on to working muscle, sparing the glycogen your later miles depend on. On its own, though, that route saturates at roughly 60g an hour. Take on more than the transporter can carry and the surplus sits in your stomach, which is where mid-race nausea starts.
Fructose enters through a separate transporter, so it adds absorption capacity instead of competing for it. Research on dual-source fuelling shows a 1:0.8 glucose-to-fructose ratio delivers a higher carbohydrate burn rate with less gut distress than the older 2:1 standard.
